In Gujarat, a total of 266 candidates will be in the fray for Lok Sabha Elections and 24 candidates for the by-elections in five assembly seats in the state. A report says that the election picture in Gujarat became clear yesterday, on the last day of the withdrawal of nominations. Ahead of the elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Surat Lok Sabha seat unopposed. After the nomination of the Congress candidate from the Surat seat was rejected and all other rival candidates withdrew their nominations,
BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal was declared the winner. Now 266 candidates will be in the fray for the Lok Sabha elections on the remaining 25 seats in the state. A maximum of 18 candidates will contest from the Ahmedabad East
constituency while there the least 3 candidates will be in the fray from Bardoli Loksabha seat.
Among the key constituencies, 14 candidates will be in the electoral battle in Gandhinagar, Navsari Surendranagar, Jamnagar and Sabarkantha while 12 candidates will contest from Banaskantha seat. There are two Lok Sabha seats in the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli.
Seven candidates will contest from Daman Diu seat while five candidates will contest from Dadra Nagar Haveli seat.
Voting will be held in a single phase in the entire state and Union territory of Daman Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli on May 7.
