Gandhinagar: Gujarat Assembly yesterday unanimously passed a bill that makes teaching the Gujarati language mandatory in all primary schools across the state. This will be applicable to all primary schools including those affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, and IB boards.
The opposition parties-Congress and Aam Aadmi Party supported the Gujarat Compulsory Teaching and Learning of Gujarati Language Bill, which was introduced by State Education Minister Kuberbhai Dindor in the assembly
yesterday.
The bill says if any school is found violating the provisions of the bill will be liable to pay the fine. The government would direct the Board or institution” to disaffiliate the school if the provisions of the bill will not be implemented in the school for more than a year.
As per the Bill, the schools which are currently not teaching Gujarati will have to introduce Gujarati as an additional language for classes 1 to 8 in phases from the upcoming academic year 2023-24.
