Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Monday said that the trends emerging from vote counting in Gujarat are heartening as the party is showing a much improved performance compared to the last assembly elections.

“The Congress is leading on some 75 seats which is good. This is twice better than the last elections.“What if we could not reach the destination, the journey has been good. And the final tally may even be better than this,” Tharoor

said outside Parliament.

He credited the Congress party’s better showing to newly appointed party President Rahul Gandhi who, he said, “connected with the people on ground”.

However, the Congress leader refused to comment on the possible causes of his party falling short of expectations.“Let all the results come and then only we will be able to analyse what were the reasons,” he said.

Mukhtar Says:
Congress would have easily won Gujarat elections if RSS from all over India didn't campaign it. There was a fear among voters. Also, EVM cannot be trusted. The tract record of BJP in influencing government machinery including EC was also a factor. There is no doubt in my mind, the end of BJP is not very far. The only reason BJP is winning is due to enormous money that is being pumped, divisive policy, creating hatred among various communities, rigging, influence of RSS on voters. There is no more democracy in the country.
