In Jammu &
Kashmir, an operation launched by security forces against terrorists is
underway in Pulwama district. The gunfight erupted between terrorists and
security forces in the area late yesterday evening. IGP Kashmir Javed Mujtaba
Gillani told AIR that the operation is in progress till now. The Army, Special
Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police and CRPF in a joint operation cordoned
off Naina Batpora village of Pulwama district after specific information about
the presence of militants. The militants reportedly fired upon the
forces
triggering off a gunfight.
Reports said the firing resumed around 6:30 this morning. Three Hizbul Mujahideen militants are believed to be trapped inside the village. Scores of worshippers were reported to be trapped inside a local Jamia Masjid who were listening to sermon in the mosque when gunfight suddenly erupted in the area. They are reported to be safe.
