Abdul Malik, the alleged mastermind behind the violence which rocked Uttarakhand's Haldwani on February 8, has been arrested in Delhi. He was later brought to Haldwani by the Nainital Police. Six people were killed in the violence and more than a hundred, including police personnel and mediapersons, were injured, according to police.

A curfew was enforced and

shoot-at-sight orders were issued in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani following clashes between locals and police over the demolition of a madrasa in Banbhoolpura.

Tensions erupted as the madrasa, deemed "illegally built" on government land in the Banbhulpura area, faced demolition. Local residents resisted the move, leading to stone-pelting, arson and violent confrontations.
