Hamza Shahbaz, PML-N leader and son of Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif, has been elected as the chief minister of Punjab in Pakistan amid ruckus during the Assembly session.

Hamza Shahbaz was elected as the 21st chief minister of Punjab with 197 votes.

Meanwhile, three PTI members of the Punjab Assembly were arrested ahead of the vote for attacking Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari as the party boycotted the session to elect the new chief minister. Hamza's rival Pervaiz Elahi did not receive any votes as his party

and PTI had boycotted the polls.

The lawmakers from the ex-prime minister Imran Khan’s party attacked Mazari and pulled his hair for changing his loyalty.

TV footage showed Mazari being slapped, punched and dragged by the PTI members before the security guards managed to rescue him.

The PTI lawmakers brought "lotas" to the house and started chanting "lota, lota" (turncoats) as they lashed out at dissident PTI lawmakers who parted ways with the party and decided to support the Opposition.
