Aam Aadmi Party has named five people as it's nominees for five Rajya Sabha vacancies arising due to the ending of terms of MPs on April 9. The names announced by the party as it's nominees include Sandeep Pathak, Associate Professor at IIT Delhi, AAP’s Delhi MLA and national spokesperson Raghav Chadha and former Cricketer Harbhajan Singh.
The chancellor of Lovely Professional University Ashok Mittal has been named as the fourth nominee, and Sanjeev Arora, an industrialist from Ludhiana, is the fifth nominee.
In a tweet, Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira said, it is most saddening news for Punjab and will be the first discrimination for their state. He said, they will oppose tooth and nail any non-Punjabi being nominated.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan has been unanimously elected Speaker of Punjab Assembly yesterday. The
leader of the house and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann proposed the name of kultar Singh Sandhwan for the post of speaker, which was seconded by Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. Protem Speaker Inderbeer Singh Nijjer announced him elected unanimously after no other name was proposed.
On his elevation as Speaker of Punjab Assembly, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, the democracy in the country has given Kultar Sandhwan a common man to reach this post. He hoped that the speaker will give equal opportunities to the ruling and opposition benches to speak in the house.
Opposition leaders congratulated Mr Sandhwan for his election as speaker. They also congratulated CM Bhagwant Mann for the faith people posed in him and hope their aspirations will be fulfilled. They also hoped, the every member will get the opportunity to keep his point in the house.
