Kurnool: The Srisailam temple town experienced heavy downpour on Sunday, causing trouble to the visiting devotees. It rained heavily for half an hour. The weather, hot since the morning, abruptly changed in the afternoon. Srisailam, Sunnipenta and Lingalagattu areas received incessant heavy rain. All the main junctions in the temple town were flooded following the torrential downpour. Devotees who came to the Srisailam temple for darshan of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba Ammavaru faced difficulties due to the rain.
On their way for darshan, they ran for cover under sheds following the sudden rain. Some other devotees were confined to dormitories. Locals and devotees affected by the Sun's heat got some relief with the heavy rainfall. As the rain
started with thunder and lightning, the electricity authorities took pre-emptive measures.
The power supply was stopped in Srisailam for a while. Thunderstorms had been hitting the region, but the temple town was exempted for some time without any drizzle. Sunday, it rained heavily, causing significant troubles for the devotees.
In Kurnool district, Devanakonda received the highest rainfall of 6.2cm from Friday to Saturday morning. Chippagiri, Gonegandla, and Tuggali mandals received 4.2cm of rain. Kurnool and adjoining areas witnessed heavy rain and gale winds on Friday and Saturday, and some RTC services were stopped midway due to uprooting of electric poles and trees in many areas.
