Heavy rain continues to lash several parts of country

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be reaching Belagavi in Karnataka today morning. She will visit flood affected areas and relief camps in Belagavi and Bagalkote. The rain and flood has affected 14 districts across the state. Over two lakh people are evacuated till now from marooned villages and over one lakh fifty thousand people have taken refuge in the relief camps. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has announced five lakh rupees compensation to the family of those killed in the flood and rain. 

The government has released 100 crore rupees under the State Disaster Response Fund to 14 districts, of which Rs 25 crore will go to the worst-hit Belagavi. A total of 37 teams comprising of NDRF, army columns, SDRF, navy and Coast Guard are taking part in rescue and rehabilitation efforts in different parts of the state. Lanslide in Kodagu district yesterday killed seven people as torrential rainfall continues to pound Kodagu. 

Several rivers in Karnataka, including Cauvery, were flowing above the danger mark. The water levels are expected to rise further as heavy rainfall has been forecast today in Malnad and Dakshina Kannada districts. 

Those living along the banks of Netravati river from Uppinangadi to Mangaluru have been asked to move to safer places. In view of rising water level of Tunga river, the public living near the banks are requested to move from their houses to nearest relief camps. Indian Navy: Teams deployed in Mallapur village near Kadra &, Kaiga in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka evacuated over 2219 people till yesterday.

also continues to wreck havoc in Kerala. Rescue and relief operations are on war footing in the state. Death toll rises above 40 in the state in heavy rain and landslides.Red is issued in 7 districts today.

Around 64000 people are in 738 relief camps in the state.12 teams of central disaster forces are being deployed in disaster hit regions. Defence, central, state disaster forces, public at large are actively involved in rescue operation across the state. Authorities had urged public to be as water level in rivers and dams had risen.Met dept predicts rain to decrease today but revive again on Aug 14, 15 and 16  due to the formation of a depression in Bay of Bengal. Fishermen are warned from venturing into the sea. 

In Madhya Pradesh, rain continued to lash most parts of the state sending many rivers and drains in spate and hitting normal life. Showers are lashing almost the entire Madhya Pradesh since the last two days. Sluice gates of seven of the 28 dams in the state have been opened due to rise in their water level. 

The Narmada River was flowing 7 meters above its danger mark in Barwani district yesterday. Around 1,000 people were rescued and sent to safer places in Barwani and Dhar districts following flooding caused by heavy downpour in the last 24 hours. Fifteen sluice gates of the Bargi dam in Jabalpur district were also opened following incessant rain. 

MeT department warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in 21 districts, including Rajgarh, Guna, Sehore, Harda, Hoshangabad, Ujjain and Indore today.
