Chennai: Heavy rain has disrupted normal life in several parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Regional Met department has said that a low-pressure area is very likely to be formed in the South East Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours. It is likely to move west north westwards and concentrate into a depression and reach near North Tamilnadu coast by the early Thursday morning. Met department has warned that there would be continuous rains over Tamilnadu Coast for another three days.

The Government has said that four lives have been lost and more than 1400 people have been moved into the relief camps in various places in the city.

Low lying roads



have been cut off in many places due to flooding in rain hit districts. More than 5000 relief centres have been set up and 87 helipads are ready in case of rescue missions.

NDRF and SDRF have already been involved in carrying out activities in flooded areas. Medical camps are conducted at relief centres to prevent outbreak of any disease.  

Water has been released from the reservoirs to a minimum level as rains will continue till 11th.  Ministers, Four Principal Secretaries and a Nodal Officer will coordinate rain-related activities including preventive and relief measures.
