South west monsoon has brought rain in isolated places in many parts of Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli in south Tamil Nadu. Two persons were drowned to death in canals flooded with rain water in Kannya Kumari. This included one person who was swept away by flash floods in Rajakamangalam canal and a boy who fell into a canal near Marungoor. Heavy rain in catchment areas in Western Ghats bordering Kerala is increasing the inflow into dams.
Southwest monsoon is bringing in copious rain for the past few days in many parts of Kanyakumari district including Marthandam and Kaliyikkavilai. The Pazhayaru, Kuzhithurai rivers are in spate. Ponds and lakes are getting
filled up with rain water. Mambazhaturai yaru dam in Villukuruchi has reached its full capacity of 54 feet. Sea erosion has affected fishing hamlets in Inayam, Ramanthurai, Eraviputhenthurai and Thenkaipattinam in Kumari district.
Squally winds have made the Kumari sea turbulent and rough. Triparuppu is flooding and water is gushing like a cascade in the falls. Tourists who thronged the falls were not allowed to bathe in Triparappu on Sunday. Rubber tapping has been affected in Arumanai, Arukani, Pathukani areas of the district because of heavy rain. Production in brick kilns in Thikuurissi, Aatrar, Njaramvilai has also been affected because of rain.
