Heavy rain was reported in parts of Kerala last evening. The northern districts of the state, however, received moderate rainfall in some places.
Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed across Idukki district, inundating several low lying areas. Landslides and widespread loss were reported. The authorities have banned night travel in the district.
Landslides were reported in Arakkulam and Velliyamattom panchayats in the
district. A woman was rescued from the debris of her house, following a landslide at Kalippilangad. Earth caved in and fell on a car at Nadukaani, but the occupants escaped unhurt.
Four shutters of Malankara Dam have been opened. The inflow into the dam has increased, following heavy rain in its catchment areas. People living on the banks of Thodupuzha and Muvattupuzha rivers have been asked to remain vigilant.
