Chennai: In Tamil Nadu, the Regional Met department has predicted  heavy rainfall in nine districts including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Ranipet districts today owing to the low pressure area over South east Bay of Bengal. 

Owing to the low pressure moving towards North Tamilnadu, the red alert announcement for four districts is to continue till tomorrow. Chennai, Tiruvallur,Kanchipuram and Ranipet districts have been experiencing heavy rainfall



intermittently in many areas since yesterday.

Educational institutions in 23 districts have been closed due to the widespread rainfall as a precautionary measure. All the district administrations have been asked to take immediate action to tackle any situation. All Coastal districts were alerted to move people living in low lying areas to safety in case of inundation and wave surge. Rains are likely to continue till the 21st of this month.
