Heavy rains lashed Mumbai city and suburban areas last night flooding several areas and affecting bus and train services. If rains continue the same way, the International Yoga day celebrations too may be hampered. Though the rains have stopped since early morning today, yet all the three lines of Mumbai’s lifeline suburban trains, Western, Central and Harbour are running 20-25 minutes late.
Railway tracks are flooded at several locations and Railways has said if the downpour continues, water is not likely to recede fast and this could affect
the long distance trains’ traffic too. Roads too are flooded at many low lying areas. The Railways have requested the BEST to put additional buses into service so that commuters do not get inconvenienced.
However, road traffic too is likely to be badly affected with railways running late and most commuters taking private cars, and buses to offices. The stir called by almost 10,000 taxi and rickshaw drivers of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai in protest against the private cabs Ola an Uber is also likely to further add to people’s woes.
