High alert sounded in many areas of Assam

In Assam, alert has been sounded in many areas as a precautionary measure after a recent Gauhati High Court order rejecting residency certificates issued by panchayat secretaries. Additional DGP Pallab Bhattacharya said that alert has been issued in parts of Barak valley and Lower Assam as there might be resentment in some sections following this order. 
The court rejected residency certificates as linkage document for National



Register of Citizens, NRC issued by panchayat secretaries. It is believed that there would be around 40 lakh such documents that had been deposited. NRC is being updated in Assam to detect illegal citizens.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has said that all documents that have been submitted for NRC must be verified. He said that error free updation of NRC would help in detecting illegal citizens staying in the state.
