In Jammu and Kashmir,
authorities have issued a high danger avalanche warning for the next 24 hours
in Kashmir division, advising people to take precautionary measures to avert
any untoward incidents.
A government spokesman said, warning has been issued for avalanche-prone slopes in Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kulgam, and Budgam and Kargil districts. All the deputy commissioners in Kashmir division, including Leh and Kargil, have been asked to advise people not to venture in avalanche-prone areas and to keep clearing snow deposits from roofs of their houses and bunkers to avoid damages.
Met department has
predicted light snowfall and rains at isolated places in the valley and
elsewhere across the State till today evening. The weather department has
predicted that there are chances of improvement in weather on February 1st and
2nd. Another spell
of moderate to heavy snowfall is likely to occur between 4th
to 6th February. After five days of its continued closure, the Srinagar-Jammu
national was thrown open for one-side traffic yesterday. The air traffic from
Srinagar Airport too resumed fully.
A senior traffic official told that more than 2500 light motor passenger vehicles, trucks, heavy motor vehicles, oil tankers including vehicles carrying essential commodities and other vehicles plied yesterday towards Srinagar. He said subject to fair weather and good road condition, the traffic would ply from Srinagar to Jammu today.
The travelers have been asked to contact Traffic Control Units and designated traffic officials in Srinagar before leaving for Jammu. Meanwhile, the authorities clarified that substantial stocks of essential commodities including cooking gas are available in the Valley.
