Hindu groups in Shimla demand 'illegal' mosque demolition, face water cannons

Shimla saw chaotic scenes on Wednesday as locals clashed with police during a protest over alleged illegal construction inside a mosque complex.

Visuals showed protesters toppling police barricades, while security forces used lathicharge and water cannons to disperse the crowd. Protesters chanted slogans like "Himachal Ne Thaana Hai, Devbhoomi Ko



Bachana Hai" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai."

The march aimed to address concerns about extra floors being added to a mosque in Shimla's Sanjauli area.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that while people have the right to protest, it should be done peacefully without damaging public property.
