In Jammu and Kashmir, a Hizbul Mujahideen commander was killed in an encounter with security forces on the outskirts of Srinagar city yesterday.
Police said that on the specific input about the presence of terrorists in Rangreth near the old Airfield Srinagar, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
While the forces were conducting searches in the area, the terrorists opened fire on them. The forces retaliated and in the
exchange of fire, a terrorist was killed. He was identified as Hizbul Mujahideen commander Saifullah, who was wanted by security agencies in several cases of terror attacks.
He had taken over as the Chief Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen after the killing of Reyaz Naikoo this year in the month of May.
Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were also recovered from the encounter site.
