New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will address the concluding session of Interpol General Assembly today. The session started on Tuesday at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The four-day event, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being attended by the delegations from 195 member countries.

These include ministers, police chiefs of countries, heads of national central bureaus and senior police officers.

Addressing the opening session of the Assembly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Indian Police Force implements more than 900 national and 10,000 state laws. He added that this is a herculean task, especially with the diversity within the society with many languages and traditions.

Mr Modi said that it is time the world comes together against threats of drug trafficking, terrorism, cyber crimes, poaching, and others. He said the world needs early detection and warning systems to ensure these threats can be minimized.
                           
Facing unprecedented complexity in the criminal threat landscape, Ministers,



Police Chiefs and senior law enforcement officials have discussed how to strengthen INTERPOL’s global solutions to support national and regional security.

During the event, the first-ever INTERPOL Global Crime Trend report was also launched, which highlighted that more than 60 percent of respondents rank crimes such as money laundering, ransomware, phishing and online scams as high or very high threats. It also mentioned that more than 70 percent of respondents expect crimes such as ransomware and phishing attacks will increase in the next three to five years.

The General Assembly also provides the global law enforcement community with an opportunity to underline its commitment to working together against the common, global threats that face us all.

India is one of the oldest members of Interpol and joined the organization in 1949. The role of INTERPOL is to enable police around the world to work together to make the world a safer place.

The event provides an opportunity to showcase the best practices in India's law and order system to the entire world.
