Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya flagged off the Run For Unity at Major Dhyanchand Stadium in New Delhi this morning. The unity run is being organised across the country today to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, ahead of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The opening ceremony for the unity run was also attended by Union Ministers Manohar Lal, Nityanand Rai, Lieutenant
Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena and BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj.
Addressing the ceremony, Mr Amit Shah said that this year Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is being celebrated on the 29th of October, instead of the 31st of October, as Deepawali will be celebrated across the country on October 31st. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi started this celebration to develop a sense of unity and integrity among citizens.
