Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch multiple development projects in Assam today.
 
He arrived at Golaghat last evening. Mr Shah will inaugurate the state-of-the-art Lachit Barphukan Police Academy and lay the foundation stone for housing projects of the Police Academy in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal at Dergaon in Golaghat district. 
 
This afternoon, the Home Minister will visit Mizoram to take part in a function related to the relocation of the Assam Rifles base from the heart of Aizawl city to Zokhawsang. 
 
The visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold great significance and historical importance as it would fulfill the long cherished dreams of the Mizo people in relocating Assam Rifles from Aizawl city to Zokhawsang, which is about 15kms from the state capital Aizawl.

Mizo people have been demanding shifting of Assam Rifles bases to a new location since 1988. The then MNF Government under Laldenga first put the demand for relocation of Assam Rifles from the heart of Aizawl city. 
 
In October last year, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the Lalduhoma-led ZPM Government and Assam Rifles which will come effective from April this year. 
 
With the relocation function of Assam Rifles to be held in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah, a new landmark chapter of history will be written in Mizoram after three decades.” 
 
Tomorrow,  Mr Shah will address the 57th Annual Conference of All Bodo Students Union at Dotma in Kokrajhar district and later in the day, will review the Implementation of New Criminal Laws in the North-Eastern States in Guwahati with the Chief Ministers of eight North Eastern states.
