The National Investigation Agency (NIA) yesterday launched thorough investigations into three major cases relating to the recent spate of violence in Manipur. The agency re-registered three cases after the Home Ministry decided to hand over the cases considering the gravity of the offences. The cases were re-registered on the 13th of this month under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita, the Arms Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The teams of the agency visited the spots on the 21st and 22nd of this month and started the probe. The process of handing over case documents from local police to NIA is currently underway.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Government has decided to continue the closure of all educational
institutions in the State in view of the prevailing law and order situation. The State Education Department issued an order informing the public that all schools, including central schools in valley districts, shall continue to be closed from tomorrow until further notice.
Meanwhile, the State Higher and Technical Education Department said that the colleges and State Universities located in the districts where curfew has been imposed by District Magistrates shall continue to be closed from tomorrow until further notice. The schools, colleges, and universities in Manipur have remained closed since 16th November after widespread protests against the killing of six people in the Jiribam district.
