The announcement was made by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on her Twitter account.
She said that Zabeena Begum has been rescued and that she appreciated the efforts by the Indian Ambassador and his team.
Zabeena Begum has been rescued. I appreciate the good work by Indian Ambassador and his team. @IndianEmbRiyadh.
In a report in The New Indian Express on June 8, Zabeena's brother claimed that his sister was being harassed and held captive in Saudi Arabia.
The family of Zubeena alleged that she was subjected to domestic violence and harassment by her employers in Saudi Arabia.
Zubeena had moved to Abha City of Saudi
Arabia in December 2015 as a domestic help at the house of a doctor couple.
"My sister has been working at the house of Ajjos and Wala for over a year. Despite making her work for extra hours under severe conditions, they have paid her only two months' salary so far, which is 2,400 Saudi Riyals. They ill-treat and verbally abuse her frequently and don't even allow her to step outside the house," her family told Express.
The family alleged that following the mental torture and harassment Zubeena's health deteriorated.
Zubeena's brother Hamid Khan approached the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to rescue his sister and put an end to her ordeal. He had even alleged that the Saudi police instead of helping Zubeena after she escaped they took her back to the employer.
