The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday accorded Y+ category security to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut after she expressed threat to her life as she spoke about drug use among a section in the film industry, following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The development also comes in the wake of spat between Ranaut and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut after the actress compared Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).
Taking to Twitter, the actor referred to the report on the Centre’s decision and said: “This shows that no one can crush a patriot in the country. I am thankful to Home Minister Amit Shah. Had he wanted, he would have told me to visit Mumbai later but he respected India’s daughter and acknowledged my self-respect. Jai Hind.”
Sources in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) said the order has not yet reached any of the two
forces tasked with providing security to VIPs. However, sources in the MHA said a decision has been taken and necessary orders will reach the CRPF in due course.
According to a source, under the Y+ category, Ranaut is entitled to two armed security personnel for her mobile security while one security personnel will guard her residence. The “Queen” actor is currently residing in her home state of Himachal Pradesh.
The Home Department will also spell out in its order whether Ranaut’s security will be valid across the country or be limited to Maharashtra. “A threat assessment has been made by intelligence agencies and it has been concluded that there is threat to her life and accordingly, security is being provided,” a home ministry official said.
In the past few weeks, Ranaut has been at the forefront of attacking several Bollywood elites and the Maharashtra administration over the death of Rajput.
