India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over Central, East and South Peninsular parts of the country till Monday. IMD said that scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and squally winds with 40 to 50 kilometres per hour very likely over West Bengal and Sikkim till tomorrow; and isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds over Bihar, Jharkhand also till Sunday.

The weather agency also predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Gangetic West Bengal today; and over the region of Odisha till tomorrow. IMD said that Hailstorm activity



is also very likely over Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha till Monday; and over Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada till tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a massive dust storm hit Delhi and the National Capital Region NCR yesterday late last night. The city witnessed winds with speeds of over 50 kilometres per hour which brought down many trees and big branches affecting traffic. 

Several flights were diverted due to the bad weather. This week Delhi recorded the highest temperature of the season at 42 degrees Celsius. In an advisory, IMD urges people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm conditions.
