India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that northern parts of the country will continue to experience heat wave to severe heat wave conditions today. Heatwave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand.
The IMD said heat wave conditions over these regions will gradually abate thereafter under the influence of approaching Western Disturbance towards Northwest India. It said heat wave conditions are also likely over isolated parts of Jammu-Kashmir, north Madhya Pradesh and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Vidarbha and Gangetic West Bengal.
The weather department further forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya for the next three days. Light to moderate rainfall is also
likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during the next five days.
Regarding southwest monsoon, the IMD said, conditions are favourable for further advancement of monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Northwest Bay of Bengal, some parts of Gangetic West Bengal, remaining parts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal and some parts of Bihar during the next 4 days.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, the IMD issued a red alert for severe heatwave conditions for today. Warm conditions are also expected at a few places across the national capital. The city is likely to witness strong surface winds gusting up to 40 kilometres per hour during the daytime. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 45 degrees Celsius.
