The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for moderate rain and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of up to 40–50 kilometres per hour over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha today. The IMD said the heatwave prevailing over the eastern and south peninsular regions of the country will abate today. The region is expected to witness a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms for the next few days. A fresh spell of heatwave is also expected over Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh for the next two days.

The weather department also predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka till the 10th of this month. Scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and winds gusting up to 40 kilometres per hour are expected over



Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura for the next 7 days.

On hot and humid weather, the IMD said that these conditions are very likely to prevail over Gujarat for the next 5 days and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and Coastal Karnataka till today. The IMD said no significant change is likely in maximum temperatures over most parts of Northwest India except West Rajasthan, where the temperature will rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next 3 days. 

The maximum temperatures are likely to fall by about 3-5 degrees Celsius over East India during the next three days, with no significant change thereafter. Meanwhile, in Delhi, the IMD forecasts a partly cloudy sky for today. The maximum temperature in the national capital is expected to hover around 41 degrees Celsius.
