The India Meteorological Department has issued a red category warning for extremely heavy rainfall in Pune and Satara districts of Maharashtra today. The forecast also predicted heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Raigad, and Palghar today. However, the intensity of rain will reduce from tomorrow.
In north India, rain lashed Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and parts of Uttar Pradesh yesterday.
In Odisha, heavy to very heavy rainfall coupled with strong surface wind is
likely to persist in many parts till today under the impact of the low-pressure area, which has now weakened and lies over Jharkhand and its neighbouring areas. The Met Centre has forecast the likelihood of the formation of another low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal around August 19.
Chhattisgarh government has also issued directives to district officials to remain vigilant to deal with a possible flood-like situation.
