Heavy rain lashed many parts of Odisha due to a cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha Coast.
Under its impact incessant spells of rain occurring in most parts of Odisha since last evening.
Normal life was hit in the state capital of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and the seaside pilgrim town of Puri due to continuous rain and waterlogging in low-lying areas that snapped road links in several places.
Incessant rain led to the rise in water level in several rivers.
Bhubaneswar Met office in a release said heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers will continue to occur at as many as 11 districts in southern, western, coastal and heavy rainfall at interior districts of Odisha during next 24 hours.
Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, the Met office in a release said.

owing to a low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal. While the rainfall is likely to be very heavy in the districts of West and East Midnapore, Purulia and Jhargram, it may be heavy in the other districts of south Bengal, including Kolkata.
The western districts in the state have been receiving heavy rain since Sunday evening and towns like Bankura and Asansol woke up to flooded roads and other low-lying areas, hampering normal life on the first day of the week.
The weatherman said that under the influence of the low pressure which is likely to become more marked, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rain is very likely over Gangetic West Bengal till today and Odisha and Jharkhand till tomorrow.
The weather system is likely to move west-northwestward and may cause fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rain over Chhattisgarh during next 36 hours, Madhya Pradesh from today till 9th of August and over Rajasthan and Gujarat during 8th August to 10th August.
