Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh was among the two Indian soldiers who were brutally killed by Pakistani troops on Monday. The 42-year-old, who belonged to the Army’s 22 Sikh Infantry, was not only beheaded but his body was also mutilated by the Pakistan army. Singh’s last rites were performed at his native Vainpoin village in TaranTaran district of Punjab as his kins desperately demanded to see the martyr’s face.

Four days after the gruesome incident, a Muslim IAS-IPS couple, in a remarkable gesture,  announced that they will take care of his 12-year-old daughter, Khushdeep Kaur. Kullu deputy commissioner Yunus Khan and his IPS wife Anjum Ara described their decision as a small tribute to the sacrifices of Paramjeet Singh.

“Khushdeep will continue to stay with her family. We will be paying for all her expenses and meeting her from time to time to know about

her problems and solve them. If she wants to become an IAS or IPS officer or choose some other career, we are there to help,” Times of India quoted Ara as saying. Khan is a 2010 batch Indian Administrative Service officer while his wife Ara is an Indian Police Service officer of the 2011-batch and is posted as the superintendent of police in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan.

Supporting his wife’s word, Khan said as responsible citizens of the country, they were only performing their duty by ensuring a good education for the child.

Showering praise at the couple for their heart-warming gesture, Subedar’s brother Ranjit Singh reportedly told , “I simply can’t express gratitude to these kind-hearted couple. It reminds me of what the Muslim ruler of Malerkotla, Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan, had done for the youngest sahibzadas (sons) of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.”
