Incessant rain in different parts of the state has claimed 17 more lives in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 133. Many districts in the Terai region are reeling under floods. 

Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath will visit the affected areas today to take stock of the situation. The state government has directed officials to shift people from the dilapidated buildings and intensify rescue and relief operation.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will be visiting Lakhimpur Kheeri district of tarai region of the state where Sharda river has flooded many villages. 

He will later go to the curnailganj tehsil of Gonda district



where more than one lakh people are affected due to flood situation. Here the spate in Ghaghra eroded a large chunk of the temporary embankment constructed around the old Elgin-Charsadi embankment. 

Several villages were marooned in Karnailganj and Tarabganj tehsil of the district. NDRF teams were called in Sonbhadra district after water coming from cracks in Balui embankment marooned 12 villages. 

Relief commissioner Sanjay Kumar told that district magistrates had been ed and asked to organise relief and rescue operations. The state government announced ex-gratia of 4 lakh for the family of the deceased.
