Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday opposed the attempts to change the name of the country to Bharat.  He pointed out that the word 'India' is an accepted name for the country which is incorporated in the 'Constitution of India'.

"There is no need to rename the country," Siddaramaiah told reporters in Bengaluru

Meanwhile, Deputy

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar remarked that the move to change the country's name by the BJP is out of its fear of losing to the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

He urged the Centre not to go ahead with renaming the country and added that such political strategies do not work anymore.
