Union Minister for Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju said, that the latest research in the field of climate and the accurate forecast provided by it is beneficial to the farmers and fishermen across the country. He also said that in the last nine years, India is progressing more and more in this field. He interacted with media persons after visiting the High Altitude Cloud Physics Laboratory at Mahabaleshwar, in Satara district of Maharashtra.
Explaining the need for more study of clouds, Mr. Rijiju gave an assurance for the modernisation of this laboratory. He said that due to advanced research, India is moving towards self-reliance in the field of climate research.
Mr. Rijiju said, that along with the accurate forecast of the weather, an accurate forecast of where and when the fish species will be
available in the sea, is also being given by the meteorological department, and the fishermen are benefiting from it widely.
He stated natural calamities like cloud bursts and earthquakes could be accurately predicted with the help of modern and advanced technology well in advance. He also assured that it will be possible to provide advance notice of those calamities in the future. An indigenously made Doppler radar system is being prepared for this, he added.
He said that the meteorological department will play an important role in increasing the production of strawberries here. He also expressed the hope that Mahabaleshwar will soon become an international tourist centre as it is one of the best tourist destinations in the country.
