The Centre yesterday said that the Country has registered a growth of 11.71 per cent in coal production in 2023-24 in comparison to the same period of last year.   

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy said during the period of 2023-24 Coal production recorded 998 Million Tonne while the production was 893 Million Tonne during 2022-23.

He said in the current



financial year the country has produced 247 Million tonnes of coal up to June as compared to 223 Million Tonnes during the same period of last year, registering a growth of 10.75 per cent.

The Minister said as of April 2023 India had an approximate 200 Billion Tonne of proved coal reserves. He further added that coal constitutes more than 50 per cent of the source of energy in India.
