7th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP7) to World Health Organization, WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) will be held from 7th to 12th of this month at Greater Noida adjoining the national capital. Union Health J P Nadda will inaugurate the conference. Briefing reporters in New Delhi last evening , Health Secretary C K Mishra said that India is fully engaged with FCTC for global cooperation in tobacco control. He said,it is an important event which will provide an opportunity to learn from other countries and showcase the steps taken by India to check tobacco
consumption.
More than 1500 delegates from 180 countries along with other Observers in Official Relations with the WHO FCTC Secretariat, Geneva are expected to participate in the conference .
The WHO FCTC is the first global evidence-based public health treaty that recognises the right of all people to the highest standard of health. India has been the forerunner in ratification of this public health treaty and was the 7th Country to ratify the Convention in 2004.The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the Governing Body of the WHO FCTC and is comprised of all Parties to the Convention.
