Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has said that India will be self-reliant in the pulses sector by 2027. He said that India has become self-reliant in the field of moong and gram but even today the country is importing other pulses. Mr Shah said this after launching a portal for registration, procurement and payment of tur-producing farmers in New Delhi yesterday.
Mr Shah expressed confidence that farmers will leave no stone unturned in making India self-reliant in the pulses sector.The Minister also said that in the last nine
years, the Narendra Modi government has taken several steps to promote the production of pulses. He said, the production of pulses was 19 million tonnes in 2013-14, which has increased to 26 million tonnes in 2022-23.
Mr Shah urged farmers to register themselves with NCCF and NAFED. He said that the Central Government will purchase all the pulses on MSP from all the registered farmers. The Minister added that pulses will play an important role in the fight against malnutrition.
