Indian Coast Guard has deployed its ships, aircraft and disaster relief teams in flood affected areas of South Tamil Nadu. Coast Guard said, they have saved 200 lives stranded in flood waters of Tuticorin and adjoining areas. Coast Guard has deployed six disaster relief teams with rescue boats and essential aid to assist local population stranded in various pockets of South Tuticorin and adjacent areas.
Apart from the
helicopter, a detachment of Coast Guard air squadrons consisting of one dornier and two ALH Mk -III positioned at Madurai airport have commenced continuous sorties to render assistance in flood affected areas. Three helicopters undertook sorties to drop more than 600 kilogram of relief material consisting of food packets and other essential items provided by the State Government for the affected citizens.
