President Droupadi Murmu yesterday said the Indian diaspora represents the best of our country and that Indians settled abroad have not only carried the knowledge and skills acquired in India but also the values and ethos that have been the foundation of our civilization for millennia. Addressing the valedictory session of the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Conclave at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar yesterday, the President said the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention is a platform where ideas converge, collaborations are forged, and the bonds between India and its diaspora are strengthened.
She said India is marching towards Vikshit Bharat by 2047, and the mission requires proactive and enthusiastic participation from every Indian, including those living abroad. She stated that the Indian diaspora is an integral part
of this vision. The President conferred the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman on 27 members of the Indian diaspora for their excellence in different fields. The President especially thanked Trinidad & Tobago President Christine Carla Kangaloo, one of the recipients of the award in the public affairs category.
The President also visited different pavilions in the Conclave, including the ‘Odisha Pavilion,’ which showcases the state’s exquisite art and craft, including handwoven sarees, intricate filigree work, and other traditional masterpieces. Union Ministers Dr. S. Jaishankar, Jual Oram, Dharmendra Pradhan, Kirti Vardhan Singh, Governor of Odisha Hari Babu Kambhampati, and Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi were present at the valedictory function.
