Indian Railway Board has announced its decision to cancel all regular time-tabled passenger services, including mail/express, passenger and suburban trains up to August 12.
All the tickets booked for regular timetabled trains for the journey date between July 1 and August 12 also stand cancelled, the Railway Board said in a statement on Thursday.
Railways officials clarified that all special trains 12 trains running on the Rajdhani routes since May 12 and 100 pairs operating since June 1 shall continue operations. Some special suburban trains which
recently resumed operations in Mumbai to ferry essential services personnel identified by the local authorities will also continue, added officials.
Earlier this week, the Indian Railways announced its plans to back Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan by committing to creating 8 lakh man-days by the end of October to boost employment opportunities in districts across India where migrants have returned in large numbers since the pandemic began. The Railway Board also set aside Rs 1,800 crore for this purpose and issued directions to zonal officers in this regard.
