New Delhi: The railways have prepared a vision document and are likely to tie up with all banks to give an option of hassle-free payment gateway to passengers, freight operators and all other stakeholders.
“Already we have been offering cashless ticketing options through the IRCTC website. More than 58 per cent of the train accommodation is presently reserved
through e-ticketing. Since the remaining load is not too much, railways going cashless is viable,” said a railway officer.
The official added that the facility for purchasing unreserved tickets through mobile phones would be made available at many railway stations, which is presently available only in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Secunderabad.
