IndiGo is set to join Operation Ganga to evacuate stranded Indian nationals in Ukraine. The airline will be flying on the Delhi-Istanbul-Budapest route. The first IndiGo flight has taken off for Istanbul.

Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla had announced the launch of Operation Ganga to evacuate stranded citizens in Ukraine amid a worsening crisis in the country following the declaration of war by Russia on Thursday. Harsh V Shringla said that the government will bear the complete cost of the evacuation process from



Ukraine.

A day before, the first batch of Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine returned to the country on Saturday. As per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the first batch of evacuees comprising 219 Indian nationals returned to India after boarding a flight to Mumbai from Bucharest. They were able to travel to the Ukrainian-Romanian border after Russian troops launched a military offensive on February 24.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S Jaishankar also took to Twitter to welcome Indians, including students, who returned to the country on Saturday.
