Income Tax Department has recovered undisclosed cash worth 14 crore rupees in raids against close aides of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath. Officials said raids were carried out at 52 locations, including in Delhi and Bhopal, on charges of tax evasion and hawala transactions. Nearly 200 officials from IT Department carried out the pan India raids against Kamal Nath's former OSD Pravin Kakkad, former adviser Rajendra Miglani and others. Officials said, documents related to undisclosed transactions worth 281 crore rupees are being scrutinised and a number of them have been seized. The recovered cash figure continues to build up and more note counting machines are being arranged in Bhopal.
I-T sources informed that the raids are linked to the suspected
movement of hawala money during the ongoing poll season and tax evasion. Locations in Indore and Bhopal belong to Nath's former Officer on Special Duty Pravin Kakkad and former adviser Rajendra Miglani were raided. The properties linked to Ashwin Sharma, associated with Kakkad, in Bhopal's Platinum Plaza residency were also covered during the operation.
Officials said documents related to undisclosed transactions worth Rs 281 crore are being scrutinized and a number of them have been seized. Reacting to the raids, the Congress accused the BJP-led central government of targeting opposition leaders for political vendetta. While the BJP hit back saying thieves were now having a complaint against the watchman.
