Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has called upon the people to be present at the unveiling of Dr B.R. Ambedkar statue in the city on January 19, Friday. “Such an event would be inscribed in golden letters in the history of Andhra Pradesh and serve as a source of inspiration to all for the next 100 years. This would help reform the society, revolt against capitalist ideals and consolidate power to the poor,” the Chief Minister said.

In a message released here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister described the statue installation as part of his endeavour to promote the cause of social justice. The statue would be unveiled at the historic Swaraj Maidan and it would be the largest in the world, so far. It was erected on an 81-feet pedestal while the statue itself measured 125-feet tall, taking its total length to 206 feet.

The Chief Minister recalled the aura that surrounded Ambedkar and how his ideals propounded 100 years ago transformed the nation’s socio-economic and political landscape and how the rights of the women were safeguarded.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the YSRC government had adopted his

ideals and incorporated them in its flagship programme of Navaratnalu. He noted that Ambedkar encouraged the suppressed classes to pursue education and to fight against untouchability. “He is an embodiment of the ideals for setting up an equitable society,” the CM stated.

The CM said, “Babasaheb Ambedkar safeguarded the interests of the people by coming up with a Constitution and incorporating in it the rights to the people He would serve as a source of inspiration forever especially to the suppressed classes.”

State SC Commission chairman Marumudi Victor Prasad called on the people of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram to make the Ambedkar statue unveiling event at Vijayawada Swaraj Maidan a success. “The Chief Minister has taken this statue installation as his ambition and worked hard to make it happen. Victor Prasad, speaking to the media, said the 125-feet Dr Ambedkar statue will be unveiled on January 19 by the CM. “A historic building has been designed.
