Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will pay tributes to martyrs among police during the Police Commemoration Day at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada on Saturday.
Making this announcement on Friday, DGP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy said every year on October 21, tributes are paid to police personnel who make the supreme sacrifice of laying down their lives in service of the nation and its people.
Rajendranath Reddy said the commemoration programmes, starting on Saturday, will culminate on October 31 on the Ekta Diwas, the National Unity Day.
He underlined that senior police officers will visit the families of deceased personnel to address their problems and ensure their general well-being. The officers will also visit schools in their jurisdiction to highlight the sacrifice.
Photographs of the martyred police personnel will be placed at the respective police stations from Sunday to October 30.
The DGP said debates and essay-writing competitions will be organised for students of schools and colleges from October 24 to October 27. Medical camps will be held for police personnel, their families and general public on October 28 at every district and unit headquarters. There will be seminars and lectures on October 29, where eminent personalities will speak.
Rajendranath Reddy said there will be a felicitation programme for special achievers among siblings of police martyrs on October 30. A Unity Run will be organised at each district on October 31 in the morning, coinciding with the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. The same evening, there will be candle rallies at every unit headquarters.
