The 270-Kms Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for vehicular traffic for the second consecutive day today due to multiple landslides between Ramban and Ramsu following heavy rainfall.

Efforts to reopen the road have been hampered following overnight rainfall resulting in fresh landslides and intermittent rolling of stones due to which the debris clearance operations could not be carried out properly.

Only all weather road connecting Kashmir valley

with the rest of the country was closed yesterday morning due to multiple landslides. Hundreds of vehicles, mostly those carrying essential commodities are stranded in long queues at different places on the National Highway between Nashari and Ramban.

A traffic police official said men and machinery are on the job to clear the debris but due to continuous rainfall the possibility of the road opening today is almost impossible.
