A host of leaders including President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the demise of Jayalalithaa. Mr. Mukherjee said, Jayalalithaa was one of the country's most charismatic and popular leaders. Mr. Ansari said Jayalalithaa's demise is an irreparable loss to the people of the country. In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister said he is deeply saddened at her passing away which has left a huge void in Indian politics.
Mr. Modi said her connect with citizens, concern for the welfare of poor, the women and marginalised will always be a source of inspiration. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu said Jayalalithaa lived for Tamil Nadu and will continue to live in the hearts of the people forever. Mr. Naidu said he always admired her courage, conviction, dynamism, wisdom and bold administration.

Governor Vidyasagar Rao, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, the party Vice President Rahul Gandhi and DMK leader MK Stalin have also condoled her demise. A host of film personalities including Rajnikanth and Amitabh Bachchan have also condoled the demise of Jayalalithaa. 
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu was the first Union Minister to pay his respects to the departed leader. In his message today, he called Ms.Jayalalithaa as an affectionate sister and a bold women leader who worked for women’s empowerment. He also recalled the last function on the inaugural of metro train phase two. 
Mr.Venkaiah Naidu also told that he had discussed with the doctors at the Apollo hospital on trying to save Ms.Jayalalithaa when he visited the hospital at 7.30 pm yesterday. Mr.Naidu could be seen seated at the pedestal in a chair where the mortal remains of the departed leader has been kept.
