In Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Territory Administration yesterday released four more politicians of different political parties as part of an ongoing exercise to free political and other detainees and lift curbs imposed on the Kashmir region. Four former legislators including a former Minister are among the released persons.
These include Haji Abdul Rasheed, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi, Mohammad Abbas Wani and former Minister Abdul Haq Khan. Five mainstream politicians of Kashmir-based two regional
political parties, who were among several detainees that had been placed under detention on 5th of August last year, when the Centre scrapped Article 370 and bifurcated state into two union territories.
They included National Conference leaders Altaf Kaloo, Showkat Ganaie and Salman Sagar, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders Nizamuddin Bhat and Mukhtar Bandh. Salman Sagar is a former Mayor of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
