Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the Anantnag attack on Monday that left seven Amarnath pilgrims dead and 19 others injured.
The SIT headed by Deputy Inspector General South Kashmir will have six-members . It also includes SSP Anantnag, Dy SP rank officer and other officials to assist the Team to probe the case.
Police have blamed Lashkar-e-Toiba for the attack that took place
on Monday night in Botengoo village of Anantnag district. Police investigation so far has found Lashkar-e-Toiba was behind the ambush and a Pakistani militant Abu Ismail was the mastermind of the attack.Lashkar has, however, denied any role in the attack and termed the attack "un-Islamic.
The attack on pilgrims evoked widespread condemnation from mainstream as well as separatists and militant groups, traders and civil society.
