In Jammu and Kashmir, the historic Mughal Road, the alternate National Highway which connects twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu division with the Shopian district of Kashmir division has been opened for the movement of vehicular traffic from Monday (8th April 2024) onwards.
Single-lane traffic has been allowed from Poonch to Shopian on Monday (8th April 2024). The road has been closed for the past three months due to the accumulation of snow in the winter season after which the Mechanical Engineering Department started snow clearance work that was completed in the last week of March. However, the road
restoration was delayed due to landslides that hit the Mughal Road on Thursday near Chatta Pani.
Meanwhile, the District Magistrate Poonch ordered the opening of the road for the movement of vehicles from today onwards. In his order, the magistrate mentioned about regulated timing for the movement of vehicles from Poonch to Shopian side on Monday. Alongside this, he has also asked the Traffic Police, Police from the district as well as Sub Divisional Magistrate Surankote to ensure the deployment of an adequate number of personnel for regulated movement of vehicles on the road.
