Chandigarh: Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Monday hit back at critics accusing him of cheating with the people's mandate by joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) chief clarified that he allied with the saffron party in order to provide a stable government in Haryana.
While speaking to media, Dushyant Chautala said, "We neither asked votes for BJP nor Congress. Jannayak Janata Party decided to provide a stable government to the state. For those who are saying 'vote kisko, support kisko', did we ask them for votes?"
In the recently-held Assembly elections in Haryana, the BJP failed to breach the majority mark after getting 40 seats in the 90-seat Assembly. Dushyant Chautala-led
JJP, which secured 10 seats, lent support to the BJP helping it form a coalition government in the state.
On Sunday, Manohar Lal Khattar was sworn-in as the Haryana chief minister for the second consecutive time and Dushyant Chautala took oath as deputy CM at Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who attended the oath-taking ceremony, lashed out at Dushyant Chautala saying that the JJP has disrespected the mandate it was given by the people of Haryana and hurt their feelings by going into an alliance with the BJP.
"People gave votes to someone, but the JJP gave its support to others. The JJP disrespected the people's mandate against BJP and hurt the feelings of the public," said the senior Congress leader.
